The same books toppers recommend — at half the price. Your complete UPSC booklist with second-hand prices.
The Real Cost of UPSC Preparation
UPSC Civil Services is India's toughest exam — and one of the most expensive to prepare for. Between coaching fees (₹1-3 lakhs), test series (₹5,000-15,000), and books (₹15,000-25,000), aspirants spend a fortune before even sitting for the exam.
But here's what UPSC toppers won't tell you in interviews: many of them used second-hand books. The content in Laxmikanth, Bipin Chandra, or Ramesh Singh doesn't change between editions. A 2024 copy teaches the same Constitution as a 2026 one.
BookBazaar by YourNotebook helps you find these books at 50-70% off — directly from aspirants who've cleared or moved on.

Tips for Buying Used UPSC Books
- Check the edition year — For Laxmikanth, Ramesh Singh, buy editions from 2023 onward (minor updates to data/budgets, core content same)
- Annotations are gold — Used books with highlights and margin notes from previous aspirants can be incredibly helpful study aids
- Buy in bundles — Ask sellers if they have a full UPSC set; you'll get a better deal
- Start with standard books — Don't buy 10 books per subject. Toppers use 2-3 standard books + current affairs
- Combine with free resources — NCERT PDFs (free), PRS Legislative Research, PIB, Yojana/Kurukshetra magazines
